Terminal themes, fonts, and zoom

Pick a terminal theme for Light Mode and Dark Mode, choose a monospace font, and pinch to zoom the terminal's text size.

Waycar lets you choose how every terminal looks: a theme for Light Mode and one for Dark Mode, a monospace font, and a text size you can also set by pinching. All of it lives in Settings › Terminal Appearance, and you can change it from inside an agent too.

Choose a terminal theme

  1. Open Settings › Terminal Appearance.
  2. Under Terminal Theme, tap Light Mode or Dark Mode.
  3. Pick a theme. Each one shows a color swatch, and the top of the page shows a live preview of your pick.

Each appearance has its own theme. Picking a dark theme for Light Mode keeps the terminal dark under a light system.

Waycar has 30 themes, including Default, Dracula, Catppuccin, Gruvbox, Nord, Monokai Pro, Rosé Pine, Ayu, Kanagawa, Everforest, GitHub, Night Owl, Flexoki, Modus, One Dark, and Zenburn. Many come in a light and a dark half, so the same theme follows your system appearance.

The theme covers the whole agent screen, not only the text: its background reaches under the top bar and into the home indicator area.

Switch the whole app to Light or Dark

The terminal themes follow the app’s appearance. To set that appearance yourself:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Appearance and pick System, Light, or Dark.

System, the default, follows your iOS setting. Light and Dark keep the whole app, including the Console, sheets, and terminals, in that look. Each terminal then uses its Light Mode or Dark Mode theme to match. This choice syncs through iCloud Sync.

Change it without leaving the terminal

  1. In an agent, tap Tools Keyboard on the Toolbar.
  2. Switch to the Terminal Appearance pane (the paint palette).
  3. Use Smaller and Larger for text size, pick a font from the font menu, or tap a theme.

Changes show on the open terminal at once. A theme picked there becomes the theme for the appearance you’re in now, Light Mode or Dark Mode. See The Toolbar.

Choose a font

Under Terminal Font, pick one:

Font What it’s like
System Menlo, whatever iOS resolves for a monospace face
JetBrains Mono Tall, open letterforms drawn for reading code
IBM Plex Mono A quieter, more humanist monospace

The fonts come with the app; nothing downloads.

Zoom the terminal text

Pinch an agent’s terminal to make the text larger or smaller. The new size sticks: it applies to every terminal Waycar opens afterwards.

You can also set it exactly under Terminal Text Size with the Text Size stepper, from 4 pt to 32 pt. The default is 8 pt. A very small size is hard to read but fits a wide layout on screen.

Does this sync to my other devices?

Your terminal font and themes sync through iCloud Sync. Terminal zoom stays on each device, so your iPhone and iPad can use different text sizes.

Good to know

Hide Back Button, also on this page, removes the ‹ at an agent’s top left on iPhone. Swipe from the left edge to go back instead.
