The Composer

The Composer is a local draft box under an agent's terminal where you write a whole message, add files, and send it in one go.

The Composer is where you write a message to an agent. Your draft stays on your phone while you type, so a weak signal never slows your typing and other-language keyboards work as usual. The whole message goes to the agent when you tap Send.

Write and send a message

  1. Open an agent.
  2. Tap Message Agent (the speech bubble) on the right of the Toolbar.
  3. Type your message. You can fix it up as much as you like; nothing is sent yet.
  4. Tap Send.

Opening the Composer closes the terminal keyboard, and raising the terminal keyboard closes the Composer.

What’s next to the text field?

As you type a Skill’s invocation, the Composer suggests matching Skills you can tap to insert.

What happens when the agent is Blocked?

When the agent is waiting at an approval or a question, Send types your draft into the terminal without pressing Enter, then shows the keys so Enter or Esc is one tap away. That way your text can’t answer the question by accident. A message to an agent that is still starting is handled the same careful way; see Start a new agent.

What if the Host is offline?

A message sent while the Host isn’t connected waits on your phone as Queued and goes out when the Host is back. See Queued messages. If a send fails after it may have left the phone, it shows Retry and Edit Draft, so nothing is sent twice.

On a shell

On a plain shell the Composer is labeled Command, and Send runs the command.

Composer or Direct Input

Every agent opens with the Toolbar alone. Tap Message Agent to open the Composer, or Terminal Keyboard to type straight into the terminal. Opening one closes the other, and your draft stays. See Type straight into the terminal.

On iPad

  • Drag text and images into the Composer.
  • With a keyboard, ⌘Return sends the draft and ⌘E switches between Direct Input and the Composer.
