Last screen while reconnecting: opening an Agent or Shell, or
launching straight back into one, now shows its last screen under the
Reconnecting veil instead of a blank connecting screen, until the live
terminal draws. Waycar keeps this picture on the device for the eight
terminals you used most recently, for up to a day (see the Privacy
Policy).
Mosh stall indicator: when a mosh terminal stops hearing from its Host
for about six seconds, a Reconnecting pill shows over the live screen
instead of the terminal freezing silently. A Host that stays silent for 65
seconds reconnects the terminal over mosh, rather than leaving it frozen.
When the Host answers again after an outage, Waycar reconnects it right
away instead of waiting out its retry delay.
Several photos or files at once in Message Agent: pick up to 10 per
message. Each shows as a chip above the message (a thumbnail for images)
with its upload progress, and a failed one offers Retry; tap X to remove
one. Send appends their Host paths after your text, and you can send images
with no text. On a Shell the path still goes in at the cursor. Dragged-in
images join the same row instead of inline markers. While the card is
closed, the Message Agent button shows a badge with the count (red on a
failure), and items beyond 10 are reported instead of silently dropped.
Changed
Faster return to an Agent: Waycar now keeps each Host’s SSH connection
while the app is in the background and checks it with one quick request
when you come back, dialing afresh beside it only if it is slow to answer.
When a mosh terminal is torn down at the end of the background grace
period, Waycar first starts a fresh mosh server for it, so coming back
within about 50 seconds reattaches without any SSH work. The Agent you last
viewed gets one ready too while the Console is open, so tapping it is
quicker. A mosh session that still answers after a short trip away is kept
instead of rebuilt.
Terminals open sooner: a terminal now starts as soon as the Host’s SSH
login finishes, without waiting for the Agent list to refresh, and runs
ahead of background work such as summaries and backend checks. Each
connection also needs fewer round trips: key login, the terminal’s PTY
request and every herdr request each save one, and several channels can
open at once.
Quicker first requests: Waycar remembers each Host’s home folder, so a
new connection skips that lookup, and its herdr version, so the Agent list
subscribes without waiting for the first check.
Hosts start connecting as the app’s window is being set up, including
when it relaunches into a saved screen, instead of after it appears.
Network changes: switching between Wi‑Fi and cellular now re-checks
every Host at once and moves mosh terminals to the new network
immediately. After a switch, a connection that died is noticed within
seconds; otherwise within about 35 seconds instead of up to 45.
Mosh where it works: Waycar remembers, per Host and network, whether
mosh gets through, so an Agent you relaunch into rides mosh from its first
attach and a network that blocks UDP goes straight to SSH. Use SSH Instead
now lasts across network changes.
Image and file uploads no longer show a banner or copy the path to the
clipboard automatically: the chip shows the status, and a long press on a
ready chip offers Copy Path.
Alert Cancel buttons on iOS 27 are the app’s violet again instead of
gray; iOS 26 and earlier keep the gray Cancel.
Fixed
Returning to a terminal: coming back to the app no longer flashes
Connection Paused for a moment. The terminal keeps its last screen while it
reconnects.
Hosts with an unreachable address: when a Host name resolves to
several addresses and the first does not answer, Waycar now tries the next
one a quarter second later (Happy Eyeballs) instead of waiting out half the
connection timeout.
Agent shown as live too early over mosh: the loader no longer clears
on mosh’s own blank first frame, a moment before the Agent’s screen
arrives.
Closing or moving several Agents at once on a tmux Host running tmux
3.5 or older no longer fails some of them with “Could Not Close Tab” or
“Could Not Move” when one of them takes the last window of the session
Waycar’s tmux connection is attached to. tmux ends that connection and
drops the requests it had not read yet; Waycar now sends a dropped close,
rename or read again on the new connection, and checks where a dropped
move left the Agent before moving it again. Typed input and new Agents
are never sent twice.
Live Activity pushed twice: two Agent status changes arriving a moment
apart could each push the same Live Activity update when the second came
in while the first was still sending. The plugin now sends one at a time
and the later change sees what was already sent.
Version 1.1.2
Added
Disable a Host: turn off the switch on its Hosts row (or at the top of
its Host page) and Waycar no longer connects to it or shows it in the
Console. Its settings, cached Agents and Closed Sessions are kept, and its
notifications still arrive. With iCloud Sync on, the switch syncs to your
other devices. Turn it back on to reconnect.
Hosts sheet live gauges: while the Hosts sheet is open, every
connected Host’s latency re-measures every 2 seconds, and a Linux or
macOS Host’s card shows live CPU, memory and swap gauges on the same
schedule. A gauge turns orange at 80% and red at 95%; a Host without swap
says None. Nothing shows for a Host that is not connected.
Changed
Hosts sheet shows each Host as its own card, like the Console’s Agent
cards: name and switch on top, address and connection below, and the
live gauges underneath.
Settings is quieter: row icons are gray instead of purple, and Hide
Back Button moved into Settings › Terminal Appearance.
Opening a terminal has its own moment. While an Agent’s terminal
connects, it shows the Agent’s name and Host over a quiet field of dots
in your terminal theme, and the first screen of output spreads out from
the cursor. Reconnecting keeps the last screen readable under a light
veil instead of a Reconnecting pill. A Host problem is spelled out in
full, and Reduce Motion keeps it all still.
Fixed
Alert Cancel buttons are quiet gray on iOS 27.0.1 instead of purple,
including Close Agent’s Cancel. The alert drew its Cancel in the app’s
accent colour, which the earlier gray setting never reached.
Console bottom bar: picking a Host or Workspace no longer leaves that
item blank for a second or two. The menu used the item itself as the shape
it opens from and closes back into, and the item changed (its name and
colour) just as the menu closed, which sometimes left it undrawn until the
next redraw. The item now stays drawn while the menu opens and closes over
it, and shows the new choice straight away.
Closing several Agents at once no longer fails every row with “Could
Not Close Tab … TransportError error 22” when the Host is briefly
reconnecting as the countdowns run out: the closes wait for the Host to
come back and then go out. A close whose answer was lost with a dropped
connection no longer reports a failure for a tab that did close, and the
Close and Move alerts now say what went wrong in words.
Chat Mode Return key: with a hardware keyboard attached, Return sends
the message and Shift+Return starts a new line. Without one, as on an
iPhone, Return starts a new line and the Send button sends.
Edit Draft caret: restoring an undelivered message puts the caret
after the restored text instead of at the start.
Mosh on a Host with more than one address: a Host reachable at
several addresses (a Mac on both Ethernet and Wi-Fi, say) now attaches
over mosh instead of falling back to SSH. Mosh now uses the address SSH
actually connected to.
Version 1.1.1
Added
Console multi-select: long-press an Agent and choose Select to check
several Agents, across Hosts, and Close, Pin, Mark Read or Unread, or Move
them together. Each closed row gets the usual undo countdown; Move works
within one Host and says why when the selection spans Hosts.
Changed
Console bottom bar is tighter: the New Agent button is now a smaller
outlined accent circle (transparent inside, purple ring and +) instead of
a large filled one, and on iPad the bar sits on the screen’s bottom edge
with just enough room around its row.
Notification question: if iOS hasn’t asked you about notifications
yet, Waycar’s one-time notification question, and the explainer behind
Settings › Notifications › Enable Notifications, now have one button,
Continue, which brings up iOS’s own question. Your answer there decides
whether Waycar turns on notifications and Live Activities for your Hosts.
If notifications are already allowed, the question still offers Turn On
and Not Now.
Chat Mode file previews: a file an Agent attaches in Chat Mode now
opens as text unless it’s a PNG, JPEG, GIF, HEIC or WebP image, a PDF, or
a video or audio file, the same rule as files opened from the terminal.
Web pages and SVG files no longer render in the app.
Jump to the beginning or end: the button that appears after a long
scroll now sits against the right edge of the Agent’s terminal, a tenth of
the way up from the bottom, as a small up or down tab, instead of floating
partway up the screen and in from the edge.
Fixed
Console Host rows: a Host the app cannot reach no longer shows
“Waiting for you to trust” its host key; with no answer from the Host
there is no key to trust, so the row shows the connection failure. The
wait still appears when the Host answers with a key you have not trusted
yet, and the Host connects on its own once you trust it.
Host latency badge: no longer re-measures and redraws every 30
seconds while a Host sits idle. The keepalive ping still runs on that
schedule to prove the connection is alive, but each one costs a full SSH
channel open, exchange and close, so repeating it just to refresh a
number was needless churn and, on a slow network, a flickering
four-digit figure. The badge now updates only when it means something
changed: at connect and when the app returns to the foreground.
Slow first requests on distant Hosts: the SSH client socket did not set
TCP_NODELAY, so libssh2’s back-to-back small packets (EOF then close,
open then data) waited for the server’s delayed ACK before each second
write — a stall of roughly one round trip plus up to 200 ms on cellular,
two or three times per foreground revalidate and seven to ten per cold
launch. Every request now sends its packets immediately.
iPad hardware keyboard: the Console’s bottom bar no longer floats
above the screen edge while you type in an Agent’s terminal; the
keyboard’s floating shortcut bar used to push it up.
iPad hardware keyboard: while an Agent’s terminal has the keyboard, the
arrow keys go to it instead of moving the Agent list, Return and ⌘Return
submit, and Shift+Return inserts a newline (Ctrl+J, which omp and Claude
Code read as a new line). Leave the terminal and the arrow keys move
through the list again.
Faster first latency number: the Hosts-list badge used to time the
remote $HOME lookup — and the SSH session setup that comes with the
connection’s first exec — inside the measured ping on every new
connection, so cold launch and foreground return read 2–3 round trips
high. Waycar now resolves the socket path as the connection opens, before
the clock starts, and the badge measures the ping alone.
Chat greeting: a new chat’s greeting no longer switches to a
different one while the chat is open. About half of all chats did.
Save to Photos: Save Image and Save Video in the share menu, for a
chat’s media and for files opened from the terminal, now ask to add to
your photo library instead of failing.
Paywall at large text sizes: at the two largest standard text sizes
(xxLarge and xxxLarge), Terms of Use and Privacy Policy now appear at the
top of the paywall, so they stay above the plan buttons on smaller
iPhones.
Restore Purchases: Settings › Subscription › Restore Purchases now
always shows a result: that Waycar Pro is active, that this Apple Account
has no active Waycar Pro subscription, or the error if the restore
failed.
Setup guide: the steps for adding your first Host now say a Host runs
herdr or tmux 3.2 or later, and step 4 no longer says to run the install
command in herdr, since a tmux Host shows its Pairing Code in the
terminal. The Pairing Code scanner also says “on your Host” instead of
“herdr”.
.m4v videos from the terminal: tapping an .m4v path in an Agent’s
terminal now plays the video instead of showing it as text.
