# Snippets

Save the phrases you send an agent over and over, then insert one with a tap instead of typing it again.

Snippets keep the phrases you send an agent over and over one tap away. Tapping a Snippet inserts its text where you are typing. It never sends on its own: you still press Enter or tap **Send**.

## Insert a Snippet

- Tap **Tools Keyboard** on the [Toolbar](https://waycar.dev/help/toolbar), switch to the **Snippets** pane, and tap one.
- Add Snippets to the Toolbar in **Settings › Toolbar**, so each is a button under the terminal.

In Direct Input the text goes straight into the terminal. It never presses Enter. **Snippets** in the **More** menu opens your Snippets list for adding and editing; it doesn't insert.

## Make a Snippet

1. Open the Snippets list: choose **Snippets** from **More**, or tap **Manage Snippets** in the tools keyboard's **Snippets** pane.
2. Tap **New Snippet**.
3. Under **Text**, type what you want to say.
4. Under **Title**, give it a short name if you like. Leave it empty and the Snippet's own text is its name.
5. Tap **Save**.

A Snippet can hold up to 4,000 characters. Waycar refuses text with control characters a terminal would read as keys, so a Snippet can't press keys you didn't mean to.

## Edit, reorder, or delete a Snippet

In the Snippets list, tap a Snippet to open **Edit Snippet**, change it, then tap **Save**. Swipe left on a Snippet to delete it. Use **Search Snippets** to find one in a long list.

To reorder, tap **Edit** and drag the handles. Reordering is offered only while the search field is empty.

- Snippets sync between your devices with [iCloud Sync](https://waycar.dev/help/icloud-sync).
- For a button that sends keys or presses Enter after its text, build a Custom Key in the Toolbar settings instead. See [The Toolbar](https://waycar.dev/help/toolbar).

## Troubleshooting

- **Snippets Unavailable**: the saved Snippets couldn't be read, for example after a newer Waycar on another device synced them. Waycar leaves them untouched, so nothing is lost, but it can't save changes. Update Waycar on this device.
